{"headline18"/}Family loses pets, tools in North Edmeston fire

NORTH EDMESTON _ A garage on Gott Road was destroyed in a fire early Tuesday morning. The blaze was spotted by Carrie Gott, who had been making cookies.

Gott said the large garage held several tractors and a play area for her children that contained many toys.

"We're waiting for the insurance adjuster to come," Gott said Thursday.

Gott said the family also lost an older dog and a cat that were in the garage.

Gott said the garage was mainly used by her husband, Richard, who restores tractors. She said he lost a lot of specialty tools in the fire, which struck at about 2 a.m. Fire officials could not immediately be reached for comment Thursday. Gott said the cause of the fire was unknown.

A fire in Masonville on Wednesday destroyed a garage with an apartment above, Masonville Fire Chief Gary Mott said.

Nobody was at the apartment when the blaze broke out at about 4:55 p.m. at the site on state Route 206, about two miles east of state Route 8, he said. The property is owned by Kela Charles.

The cause of the fire is still under investigation, but it did not appear suspicious, Mott said. Officials do not know if she or the tenant, who was not identified, were insured. The nearby house, where Charles lives, received only minimal damage, Mott said.

The department received mutual aid from the Bainbridge, Deposit, Sidney, Sidney Center, Trout Creek and Walton fire departments, he said. About 60 firefighters were at the blaze, he said.

There were no injuries, he said.
