Stamford begins working on plan for town

Staff Report

The Stamford Comprehensive Plan Advisory Committee has begun work on a comprehensive plan for the town and is seeking public input as the planning process continues.

The committee will have its next meeting Wednesday at the town hall.

Meetings are open to the public and will continue on the fourth Wednesday of each month.

The committee was formed in September to develop a comprehensive plan for the town. Committee members are: Nathan Kanarek, John Houshmand, John Lamport, Carolee and Allen McLure, Kelly Keck, Nancy Haycock, Lorraine Ziek, Lorelle Phillips, Dennis and Mary Brockway, Jim and Jean Koop, Brooke White, Beth Adams, Paula and Harry Nissen and Debbie Grant. Members were appointed by the town board.

According to a media release from the committee, the group is creating "a grass-roots document that outlines the vision, goals and direction a community wishes to take over the next decade.

As a road map' for the town, the plan will identify a series of actions that can be implemented to address the issues and long-term needs of Stamford."

The committee is working with Community Planning and Environmental Associates of Berne.

Funding is being provided by grants from the state Department of Agriculture and Markets and the Catskill Watershed Corp.

Organizers said the committee plans to conduct a survey and a public planning workshop during the winter, in addition to collecting maps and data about the town, its resources and the issues it faces.
