There was talk about upcoming budget issues during Wednesday's meeting of the Oneonta City School Board. The meeting was held at Valleyview Elementary School.
During the roundtable portion of the meeting, board member Jamie Reynolds talked about Tuesday's meeting of the Finance Committee.
Projections call for the district to face 9 percent increases in employee retirement and health-insurance costs and about a 4 percent increase in contractual obligations.
If these estimates pass, they would result in a $1.5 million increase before any other costs are considered, he said.
With the district expecting at no increase in state aid next year, it is important that "we look at everything we can do" in planning for the 2010-11 budget, Reynolds said.
In other business, the board approved two upcoming educational trips to New York City for Oneonta High School students, with all expenses to be paid by students.
The language students will be going March 12, and chorus and choir students will be traveling April 14.
