Area professors contribute to book on globalization
ONEONTA _ Four faculty members at the State University College at Oneonta are the editors of a book titled "Imagining Globalization: Language, Identity, and Boundaries," which will be released in November by Palgrave Macmillan.
The four colleagues who edited the book are Ho Hon Leung, associate professor of sociology; Matthew Hendley, associate professor of history; Robert Compton, associate professor of political science; and Brian D. Haley, associate professor and chairman of anthropology. Each of them also contributed an article to the collection, as did several other SUNY Oneonta faculty members.
Other SUNY Oneonta faculty members who contributed to the book are Joseph F. Chiang of the chemistry and biochemistry department; Shiao-Yun Chiang of communication studies; Thomas Horvath of biology and environmental sciences; Orlando Legname of music; Hanfu Mi of elementary education and reading; Maria Cristina Montoya of foreign languages and literatures; and Thomas Sakoulas of art, who also designed the book's cover.

Author to visit Red Dragon Reading Series on Wednesday
ONEONTA _ As an installment of the fall semester's Red Dragon Reading Series at the State University College at Oneonta, local author Ginnah Howard will present a reading from her recent novel "Night Navigation" at 7:30 p.m. Wednesday in the Craven Lounge of the Morris Conference Center.
The reading will be followed by a reception and book signing. Admission to the event is free, and members of the community are invited to attend.
Howard's novel "Night Navigation" was released by Houghton Mifflin Harcourt earlier this year. Her work has also appeared in "Water-Stone Review," "Portland Review," "Permafrost," "Phoebe," "Ballyhoo" and elsewhere. Several of her stories have been nominated for a Pushcart Prize.
"Night Navigation" is set in upstate New York and tells the story of a woman traveling north to pick up her son, who is battling his heroin addiction.
