The state Department of Environmental Conservation and the Federal Emergency Management Agency will present revised flood-map drafts for Delaware County on Monday and Tuesday.
The maps feature new flood zones based on the nationwide Map Modernization program, a five-year project that produced updated, digitized flood maps.
The Delaware County maps feature new stream studies of the Beaver Kill, Delaware and Susquehanna rivers and other streams, as well as information from the aftermath of the 2006 flood.
Area residents may view the maps and ask questions of flood-plain managers and flood-insurance representatives at the events.
The open-house events will run from 2 to 8 p.m. Monday's open house will be in the Catskill Hall Great Room at 2 Main St. on the State University College of Technology at Delhi campus. Tuesday's event will be in Walton at the Robinson Auction Barn at 7 West St.
Officials said more than 6,000 Delaware County property owners have been notified about changes to the maps that will affect their properties. According to a media release, FEMA estimates about half of these properties are in newly identified flood zones.
Being in a flood zone carries a mandatory flood-insurance requirement for all structures that have a mortgage with a federally regulated lender or have a federally backed mortgage.
Preliminary maps are also available online at www.rampp-team.com/ny.htm. Delaware County residents can locate their property by address or parcel number at www.giswebhost.org/delaware.
