Sex offender arrested

MIDDLEFIELD _ Otsego County deputies arrested a Unadilla Level 2 sex offender Tuesday for allegedly failing to register a change in his address.

David Alan Shaffer Jr., 31, was an inmate at the county jail from late August to Sept. 10, according to a media release from deputies.

After he was released from jail, where he was being held on a fourth-degree criminal mischief charge, Shaffer failed to change his address back to his Unadilla residence within 10 days, deputies said.

Shaffer surrendered himself at the Otsego County Sheriff's Office and was charged.

He was issued an appearance ticket for Nov. 23 in Middlefield Town Court.

In 1999, Shaffer was convicted of an unspecified felony sex offence in North Carolina involving a 14-year-old girl and was sentenced to 7 to 10 years in prison.
