Walton appoints interim supervisor

By Patricia Breakey

WALTON _ The Walton Town Board met Tuesday and appointed Bruce Dolph as interim supervisor "" a position vacated after the death of Supervisor John Meredith.

Dolph was elected to a four-year term as Walton supervisor in the Nov. 3 election but won't officially take office until Jan. 1.

Dolph resigned from his council seat to be appointed supervisor, which left a vacancy on the board that was filled by the appointment of Len Govern.

Govern, who owns and publishes The Walton Reporter, approached the Walton Republican Committee to let them know he was interested in the board seat, Dolph said Thursday.

After meeting in executive session, the Walton board announced Govern's appointment.

Dolph, who served as deputy supervisor under Meredith, said he appointed Councilman Kevin Armstrong to the deputy supervisor position.

Dolph said Govern was appointed to fill the council seat through the end of 2010 but will have to run in the November election to serve the remaining year of the four-year term.

Govern is the chairman of the Delaware County Republican Party and is also a Delaware County fire coordinator.
