DELHI _ The Delaware County Board of Elections completed the re-canvassing of the votes in Middletown, Sidney and Bovina on Monday and announced winners in three close races.
When the polls closed Tuesday, two candidates for a Middletown Town Council seat were tied at 387 votes each. After Monday's recount, Republican Jacob Rosa inched out Democrat John Bernhardt by a six-vote margin with a final tally of 407 to 401.
In Sidney, there was a three-way finish for two council seats, with the original vote count showing Republican Eric Wilson with 482 votes, Republican Joseph Ermeti with 466 votes and Democrat C. Peter Cordes with 473 votes. After the absentee votes were added and the ballots recounted, Wilson had earned 498 and Cordes squeaked past Ermeti with a four-vote edge, winning 487 to 483.
In Bovina, there was a tight race for highway superintendent with Republican and Independence candidate Robert Burgin ahead of Democrat Edward Weber by a vote of 121 to 110. After all the outstanding votes were added to the total, Berger maintained the lead with by a vote of 137 to 117.
