ONEONTA _ A public hearing on the state DEC's draft natural-gas regulations will be held tonight in the atrium at the Foothills Performing Arts Center at 24 Market St.
The hearing will be transcribed by a professional stenographer, and all comments will be sent to the state Department of Environmental Conservation for its official record.
The public comment period on the Supplemental Generic Environmental Impact Statement on the Oil, Gas and Solution Mining Regulatory Program was recently extended from Nov. 30 to Dec. 31.
Although the DEC is holding public hearings in other parts of the state on the SGEIS, none are scheduled for Otsego County.
City and county officials are teaming up to host their own hearing that will follow the DEC format.
Otsego County Planning Director Terry Bliss will moderate the hearing, which will begin at 7 p.m. The doors open at 6 p.m. so anyone wishing to make comments can be listed on a sign-in sheet. The hour preceding the hearing is also intended to be used for an informal discussion, according to a media release from City Hall.
The draft SGEIS and more information are available at www.dec.ny.gov/energy/58440.html. A paper copy of the draft is available at Huntington Memorial Library in Oneonta.
The other public event this week in city government is a Personnel Committee meeting at 6:30 p.m. tonight at City Hall
