ONEONTA _ The State University College at Oneonta will host a presentation on Henry Hudson at 7 p.m. Tuesday.
Charles Gehring will present "Uncovering New York's Dutch Past, One Page at a Time" in the Instructional Resource Center, Room 5.
For 35 years, Gehring has been translating 17th-century Dutch documents from the New York State Archives related to Hudson's arrival in New York.
Gehring will discuss how the Netherlands' conversion from a monarchy to a republic influenced its governance of the Nieuw Amsterdam colony.
Gehring's visit is being sponsored by The Public Events Committee at SUNY Oneonta, the History Department, Clio: the History Club, and the Department of Foreign Languages and Literatures.
An exhibit commemorating the quadricentennial is on display in the Reading Room of Milne Library, including a replica 1660 map of Nieuw Amsterdam and a painting of Hudson's arrival.
