Delhi board approves tractor store variances

By Patricia Breakey

DELHI _ The Delhi Village Zoning Board of Appeals has approved a request for use and area variances to locate a Tractor Supply Company store at the former Great American store on Main Street in Delhi.

Developer Francis Jenkins purchased the vacant store last August. He has negotiated a lease with Tractor Supply Company, but there are several zoning variances required before the company can begin upgrading the building.

The downtown Delhi independent supermarket closed last summer after 13 years in business and has remained vacant.

Zoning Board of Appeals Clerk Kim Cairns said the area variances were approved at the Oct. 19 meeting, and the usage variances were approved Tuesday.

The variances include those to sell agricultural equipment, building supplies and live animals in the downtown business district. The prohibition of fencing in the business district, the number of parking spaces in the lot and the size and number of proposed signs are items that also require area variances.

Jim Thomson, Delaware County Industrial Development Agency executive director, said the proposal will go before the Delhi Village Planning Board on Dec. 1 for final approval.

Thomson said Jenkins plans to open the Tractor Supply Company store by April.
