Mayoral forum set for tonight
A forum featuring the candidates for Oneonta mayor has been scheduled for 5:30 p.m. today at the Foothills Performing Arts Center.
Democratic and independent candidate Dick Miller, independent candidate Jason Corrigan and Republican, Conservative, Working Families and Independence candidate Erik Miller arranged the forum and have confirmed their attendance.
The forum is being moderated by former Daily Star managing editor Cary Brunswick, who will take questions from the audience. Each candidate will have two minutes to respond to each question.
Brunswick said he thought the forum would provide a final opportunity for the candidates to appear together before Tuesday's election and address the issues facing the city.
Ecology focus of 'Wick event
ONEONTA _ Hartwick College will host the next stop on a national tour highlighting local and global ecological issues. The event will feature author Laurie Mazur, as well as Otsego County Conservation Association Executive Erik Miller. It will be held from 6 to 7:30 p.m. today in the Celebration Room of Shineman Chapel House on the Hartwick campus. The event is free and open to the public.
The book tour includes interactive workshops, panel presentations and training on the connections among population growth, sexual and reproductive health and rights, environmental protection and global justice issues. It highlights a new book edited by Mazur and published by Island Press, "A Pivotal Moment: Population, Justice and the Environmental Challenge." Events expose participants to population-environment challenges from a justice lens: the history of the issue, what is at stake and the solutions.
The event is co-sponsored by Hartwick College's Pine Lake Institute for Environmental and Sustainability Studies and the Grassroots Environmental Club. For more information, contact institute Director Brian Hagenbuch at 431-4518 or hagenbuchb@hartwick.edu.
