A Hobart man was arrested on felony drug charges in two counties Wednesday after going through a traffic-safety checkpoint on state Route 28 in Milford, Otsego deputies said Thursday.
Eric W. Eichhorn, 28, was arrested for third-degree criminal possession of marijuana and various vehicle and traffic infractions.
Otsego deputies provided the following information: Eichhorn passed through the checkpoint with an expired registration sticker on the windshield of his vehicle and produced an expired driver's license. He was issued appearance tickets to appear in Milford Town Court.
While questioning Eichhorn, Deputy Stanley Cade smelled marijuana coming from the vehicle. A search of the vehicle by K-9 Marty found about a half-pound inside a knapsack, deputies said. During an interview at the Otsego Sheriff's office, it was determined that Eichhorn had more marijuana inside his residence. The information was turned over to Delaware deputies. Eichhorn faces up to one-and-a-half years in state prison on the Otsego County charges.
Delaware deputies said Friday that Eichhorn was charged there with third-degree criminal possession of marijuana, a class E felony, and growing the plant known as cannabis by an unlicensed person, a class A misdemeanor. The information provided by Otsego deputies led to a search of Eichhorn's residence, resulting in the seizure of several marijuana plants and several containers of cultivated marijuana, as well as growing and packaging paraphernalia, Delaware deputies said.
He was issued appearance tickets and released pending a Nov. 10 date in Stamford Town Court.
