Maintenance workers at Worcester Central School were doing some extra disinfecting work Thursday, Superintendent Gary Kuch said.
The school was closed Thursday because of an increasing number of student absences, many of whom cited flu-like symptoms, and staff illnesses, he said. Two students tested positive for H1N1, or swine flu.
There were about 147 students absent Wednesday out of a student population of 413, he said. Ten members of the teaching staff were also out Wednesday.
Kuch said he was hopeful parent-teacher conferences would be held today and that school would reopen Monday. Parents would be notified if there were any changes, he said.
