ONEONTA _ A third city police officer allegedly involved with "conduct unbecoming an officer" and misuse of city property was placed on paid administrative leave this week.
That officer is Daniel Fetterman, according to several sources close to the matter. Fetterman joins Sgt. Andrew Barber and Joseph Stockdale, who resigned earlier this week.
The sources have also said the conduct to which Fetterman, Barber and Stockdale are connected includes sex with young women on city property during duty hours.
No city officials, including Mayor John Nader and Police Chief Joseph Redmond, have confirmed the identity of the third officer or the circumstances of the alleged conduct.
"I can't identify who the officer is," Nader said during a media briefing Friday afternoon at which the city issued a four-sentence statement.
Nader was accompanied by Redmond, Seventh Ward Alderman Lizabeth Shannon and Personnel Director Kathy Wolverton. Shannon is the chairwoman of the Common Council Board of Public Safety.
The statement indicated the Oneonta Police Department has placed a third officer, allegedly connected to the activity, on administrative leave. That leave began Wednesday.
Sources close to the matter have said Fetterman had recently gotten married and was out of town on his honeymoon when the allegations came to light.
Fetterman was hired in 2002 and is a member of the department's bike patrol and special response team. He does not have a listed phone number and could not be reached for comment.
"Due to the protections provided to the officer under New York Civil Rights Law Section 50-A, no further information can be released at this time regarding the officer's identity or the related allegations," the statement said.
Barber and Stockdale resigned Monday after being placed on administrative leave on or around Sept. 29, the day the allegations became known to Redmond and Lt. Dennis Nayor through internal sources, according to city officials.
An investigation was launched by the police department and city officials.
"The results of the investigation have been, and will continue to be, shared with the Otsego County District Attorney's Office," according to the statement released Friday.
The statement indicated city officials expect the investigation will be "concluded shortly."
"We hope days," Wolverton said on Friday.
Barber and Stockdale's names were released after they resigned.
"Once they resign, they don't have the protections of 50-A," Wolverton said.
Sources close to the matter said it is not believed any other officers are involved.
District Attorney John Muehl has said that, based on the investigation, no criminal activity occurred.
