Small Business Banquet set for tonight

Staff Report

Local businesses will be the stars at tonight's 10th annual Small Business Banquet, presented by the Otsego County Chamber at the Otesaga Resort Hotel in Cooperstown.

In a media release, Chamber President and CEO Rob Robinson called the annual recognition dinner "one of our proudest moments.

"It is hard to imagine it was over 10 years ago that we floated the idea of expressly honoring our small businesses _ those with 20 or less employees _ that are the heart and soul of our economy."

Honored with the Otsego County Chamber/KeyBank Annual Small Business Award will be James Jordan Associates, Architects, of Richfield Springs.

James Jordan, architect and company owner, bought the business from his father, Myron, about 25 years ago. According to a media release from the Chamber, the firm is known locally for its work on educational facilities.

Another honoree at tonight's banquet will be Ioxus Inc. of Oneonta, recipient of Otsego County Chamber/The Daily Star Annual Breakthrough Award. A subsidiary of Custom Electronics, the manufacturing firm produces ultracapacitor technologies, employing 16 people at a plant on Winney Hill Road.

"It is extremely rewarding to honor these businesses," Robinson said in the release. "There is nothing small about their ambitions, their drive and their commitment to producing superior products and services."

The banquet will begin with a cash-bar reception at 5:45 p.m., followed by dinner at 7. Admission is by advance registration only.
