Driver in fatal crash ticketed

ONEONTA _ The driver in a fatal motorcycle crash was ticketed for failure to yield, state police at Oneonta said Tuesday.

The crash remains under investigation.

Troopers previously said Kyle Faulkner, 21, of Davenport Center, was riding a Suzuki motorcycle east on Route 23 at about 8:20 p.m. when a Chevrolet Malibu driven by Madison Kreutzer, 23, of Livingston, attempted to turn from the westbound lane of the highway to the Holiday Inn.

Faulkner was unable to avoid Kreutzer's car, slid underneath it and was pinned, troopers said.

Fire forces evacuation in city

ONEONTA _ A small fire Tuesday morning prompted the evacuation of about 20 residents of a downtown building.

The blaze broke out among plastic trash bins on the third floor of 195 Main St. at about 4 a.m., Oneonta Fire Chief Robert Barnes said Tuesday.

A smoke detector activated, Barnes said.

Two people doused the flames with water and a fire extinguisher before they evacuated the building, and this helped prevent it from spreading, Barnes said, adding that, "The fire didn't amount to much."

There was no structural damage, although there was some damage to a door that was forced open by firefighters.

The cause of the blaze is still under investigation.

"There is no indication that it was intentional or otherwise," Barnes said.
