Larceny, assault alleged in Delaware court

DELHI _ A woman who allegedly stole a $3,000 diamond ring and a man who allegedly attacked a woman in a pizzeria with a fork and knife both appeared in Delaware County Court on Monday.

Jerrie L. Homovich, 21, of Hamden, was charged with third-degree grand larceny for the alleged theft of Elizabeth Karl's ring in Colchester on May 25.

Homovich was also arraigned on charges of second-degree burglary, third-degree burglary and petit larceny for an incident that allegedly occurred in Colchester on July 16. She was accused of entering a dwelling and taking property belonging to Thomas Shaw.

Homovich's attorney, Frederick Neroni, entered pleas of innocent to all charges on behalf of his client.

Delaware County District Attorney Richard Northrup requested high bail of $20,000 cash or $40,000 bond, stating that although Homovich has no prior history, he was concerned that she might leave the area because the crimes were drug-related.

Neroni requested a reasonable bail that her mother and father, who live in the area, could afford. He added that Homovich is being considered for drug court.

Delaware County Judge Carl Becker set Homovich's bail at $5,000 cash or $10,000 bond, and told her to begin attending drug-court sessions immediately.

Becker scheduled Homovich's trial during the Jan. 4 trial term.

Northrup said an eyewitness saw Homovich climb through the window of one of the homes and then come out of the door of the house.

In another case, Joshua Poss, 22, of Sidney, was arraigned and pleaded innocent to charges of third-degree criminal possession of a weapon, second-degree attempted assault, third-degree stalking, second-degree aggravated harassment and first-degree harassment.

According to court documents, Poss allegedly stalked a woman during March and April and injured her in Joe & Vinnie's Pizzeria in Sidney on April 8.

Northrup said the woman had a red mark on her chest after Poss allegedly struck her, but she was not seriously injured.

Poss was jailed without bail to await trial in the Jan. 4 trial term, and was also ordered to begin attending drug court for consideration for admission to the program.

In a third case, Howard G. Manon, 40, of Fleischmanns, was arraigned and pleaded innocent to two counts of driving while intoxicated, second-degree aggravated unlicensed operation, unlicensed operation and unauthorized use of a motor vehicle.

Manon was jailed on $2,500 cash or $5,000 bond to await trial on Jan. 4.
