Two Otsego county villages have contests for positions on the ballot in today's elections. There are several village contests in Delaware County.
Voting in Otsego County will be from noon to 9 p.m. except in Gilbertsville, where voting is from 2 to 7 p.m., officials said.
In Cooperstown, two candidates are running to replace Mayor Carol Waller for a two-year term. She is not running for re-election. Trustees Democrat Jeff Katz and Republican Joe Booan Jr. are seeking the post.
There are four candidates seeking two trustees' seats, each having a three-year term, according to a legal notice.
These include Democrats Lynne Mebust and Sally Eldred, an incumbent, and Republicans Douglas B. Walker and Alton G. Dunn III. Incumbent Eric Hage chose not to run, Deputy Clerk Jennifer Truax said. Seeking the four-year term for village justice are Democrat Leslie B. Freedman and Republican Michael R. Molloy.
With so many races, Truax said she was expecting a big turnout for elections at the village fire hall.
The race for Unadilla offices could also bring some surprises. Several people are running write-in campaigns for three positions.
Village Clerk Suzette Hayes said she was hoping for a good turnout. The elections is at the community house.
Republican David Welch is asking people to write his name on the ballot for mayor, she said.
Two women "" Democrat Linda Bickos, who is stepping down as mayor, and Republican Patricia Corby "" each said she is seeking one of two trustee positions through write-in campaigns.
In Otego, both incumbent trustees, James Salisbury and Joseph Stanton, are running for re-election, village Clerk Bettie Bennett said. Voting will take place at the village hall at 4 River St., she said.
Laurens voting will take place at the village office at 37 Brook St., village Clerk Doris Schlee said.
Both incumbent trustees, Donna Sorrentino and Cristy Gordon, are running for re-election to the two-year terms, she said.
In Richfield Springs, Mayor Ronald Frohne II, is running unopposed for a two-year term. For the village board, James Kurkowski and Duane Pierson are running unopposed for a two-year term, and Ray Patrick is running unopposed for a one-year term, village Clerk Diane Blackwell said.
Incumbent Justice Peter Brykailo is running unopposed for a four-year term, she said. Voting will take place at the town building.
In Cherry Valley, the voting will take place at the village office at 2 Genessee St. Incumbent Trustee Edward A. Harvey is running unopposed for a four-year-term, an official said.
In Morris, Mayor Michael Newell is running unopposed for a two-year term and incumbent Trustee William Burdick is running for a two-year term, an official said. The voting will take place at village office at 118 Main St.
Voting in Gilbertsville will take place at the village office. Running unopposed for a two-year term is Trustee Douglas Smith, village Clerk Nicki McNeil said.
In Milford, incumbent Trustee David West is running for re-election to a two-year term, Mayor Sabine Curry said. Voting is at the village office.
In Delaware County: Franklin is the only village electing a mayor, with incumbent Mayor John Campbell as the only candidate. Franklin Trustee Paul DeAndrea is also running unopposed.
Walton has four candidates vying for two trustee seats. Incumbents George Ostrowski and Rich Morley are being challenged by Patrick Meredith and Andrew Rutherford.
Fleischmanns has a three-way race for two trustee seats, with John Granito going against incumbents Harriet L. Grossman and Fred Woller.
Hancock has two races, with Herb Buckley challenging incumbent John E. Gordon for the justice position.
In a three-way race for two trustee positions, the candidates include incumbent Republican Alice M. Hartz, who has been endorsed by the Democrats, incumbent Democrat Karol Mech and Republican John G. Martin.
Hobart incumbent Trustees Kellee Estus and David Hotaling are facing Joseph Roufe in a race for two two-year seats on the board. Charles Reinshagen is running unopposed for a one-year seat.
Stamford incumbent trustees Donna Jacobs and John Bonhotal are being challenged by Penny DeBita for two seats on the board.
