Staff Report
A man who objected to state police interviewing his son about a drunken-driving accident was charged with obstruction, Oneonta police said Sunday.
Kevin Mitchell, 46, of Morris, was charged with resisting arrest and obstructing governmental administration at about 12:30 a.m. Sunday, troopers said.
Mitchell allegedly pushed two troopers after they arrived at his house to speak with his son, Matthew Mitchell, 21.
Troopers charged Matthew Mitchell with driving while intoxicated, operating a motor vehicle with blood-alcohol content of more than .08 of 1 percent, moving from a lane dangerously and leaving the scene of a personal injury accident.
The crash at about 11:30 p.m. Saturday happened when Matthew Mitchell hit some guide rails, and his vehicle stopped on property off county Route 49, not far from the Mitchell home, troopers said. The property owner went to see what had happened, noticed blood inside the car and called authorities, troopers said.
The vehicle's airbag had deployed, and Matthew Mitchell had a cut on his nose, troopers said. After he called home, a family member picked him up, troopers said.
The Mitchells were issued tickets to appear in court at a later date.
