Area News Roundup: Teen arrested on drug charges


ONEONTA _ A 16-year-old Oneonta boy was arrested Wednesday on felony drug and other charges after a trooper spotted him pulling into a gas station in a Jeep with no license plates, according to state police.

When the trooper approached the 1995 Grand Cherokee driven by Travis Cole and interviewed him at the state Route 7 Quickway in the town of Oneonta, he smelled a marijuana odor, troopers said in a media release.

Nearly a pound of marijuana was found inside a bag after the Jeep was searched, troopers said.

Cole was charged with third-degree criminal possession of marijuana for allegedly possessing 15 ounces of marijuana. He also faces charge of driving while ability impaired by drugs, and he was ticketed for operating out of class and operating an unregistered and uninspected motor vehicle.

Cole was arraigned in Milford Town Court, and released on $300 bail.

Troopers said they are investigating how Cole acquired the Jeep, and more charges are expected.

Man charged with selling lewd photos

An Oneonta man was arrested Tuesday for allegedly sending lewd photos to a 14-year-old girl.

Matthew Lange, 27, was charged with first-degree disseminating indecent material to minors, a felony.

The arrest came after a report was received by state police Friday, troopers said in a media release.

Lange was arraigned in Worcester Town Court and sent to Otsego County jail on $1,500 bail/$3,000 bond to await further court action at a later date.
