Independent filing sets up supervisor race

DELHI _ A race for Hancock town supervisor position developed Tuesday when Salvatore Rubera filed an independent petition to run against incumbent Republican Hancock Supervisor Sam Rowe.

Janice Burdick, Delaware County Democratic election commissioner, said 21 independent petitions were filed before the deadline at 5 p.m. Tuesday.

Incumbent Republican Sidney Supervisor Joseph Maddalone filed an independent petition to ensure a spot in the November election. Maddalone will face Republican Bob McCarthy in a primary race on Sept. 15, with the victor going on to face Democrat Dawn Rivers Baker in the November election.

In Kortright, Democratic supervisor candidate Steven Bower and incumbent Republican Supervisor George Haynes Jr. both filed independent petitions to gain a second line on the November ballot.

Davenport Supervisor Dennis Valente, who is unopposed in the November election, was the only other supervisor candidate to file an independent petition.

Other candidates filing independent petitions include:

Andes _ Denise Norris, town council; Nicholas Berton, justice.

Colchester _ Democratic candidate Bonnie Seegmiller, town council; Republican candidate Kenneth Eck Jr., highway superintendent.

Hamden _ Democratic candidate Rosemarie Bryden, town council.

Hancock _ Frederick Peckham, town council.

Kortright _ Town council candidates, Democrat Steven G. Smith and Republican John McMullen; highway superintendent candidates Democrat William J. Smith and Republican John McMullen.

Masonville _ Betty Scott, Stephen Tiska, town council; Michael Spaccaforno, two-year council vacancy.

Middletown _ Town council candidates, Democrat Michael Finberg and Republican Jacob Rosa.

Walton _ Eileen Esposito, town council.
