The Sidney Central School Board of Education chose a high school principal during a special meeting on Thursday.
Eben Bullock was appointed to the vacancy resulting from former Principal Annette Hammond leaving to take a similar position at Gilbertsville-Mount Upton Central School.
Two finalists were interviewed during the board's regular meeting on Tuesday, according to Sidney Superintendent Sandra Cooper.
Bullock is the "safe and drug-free schools" coordinator with the Binghamton City School District, where he has taught health and physical education since 2002. He is a 2001 graduate of Ithaca College, where he received a bachelor of science degree in health and physical education.
"I'm extremely excited and very grateful for the opportunity," Bullock said. "The people that I've met are welcoming and show excitement to either live in the community or work at the school."
Bullock starts Sept. 1. He will be making $75,000, Cooper said.
"We are thrilled that Mr. Bullock will be joining our administrative team," Cooper said. "His passion for educational leadership and his commitment to building positive relationships with the entire school community were strong considerations in the selection process."
He lives in Port Crane with his wife, Kerri, who is a curriculum development specialist for Broome-Tioga Board of Cooperative Educational Services.
He received a Master of Science in education in 2004 and a certificate of advanced study in 2008, both from the State University of New York at Cortland.
In other business from Tuesday's meeting, the discussion about the possible auction of the Sidney Center elementary school building will continue at the board's regular Aug. 25 meeting, Cooper said.
Joe Lally, chairman of the Sidney Center Improvement Group, said the group would like to see the building used, and it is working to find an owner who will contribute to the community.
Lally said he has been in touch with the district about the situation and expects to attend the upcoming meeting.
