Winter storm watches for Chenango, Delaware and Otsego counties were issued Monday afternoon by the National Weather Service as an approaching storm threatens heavy snow for parts of the region.
The watches will be in effect from tonight through Wednesday night, according to the NWS.
A winter storm watch is issued when heavy snow is possible.
The NWS said 7 inches of snow is possible in Delaware County, but the heaviest snow from the storm is expected to be to the south of the region.
A major winter storm is expected to intensify off the New Jersey coast.
Accumulation predictions ranged from 3 to 6 inches for the region, including Otsego County, according to AccuWeather.
The NWS is reporting a 100 percent chance of snow for Oneonta on Wednesday but has not yet issued a forecast for accumulation.
The NWS said one storm center will move to the Ohio Valley by tonight, with a separate storm expected to form along the mid-Atlantic Coast. The coastal storm is expected to become the dominant system and intensify, bringing the threat of significant snowfall to northeast Pennsylvania, the Southern Tier and the western Catskills, according to the NWS.
