Man charged with felony assault
{"DS | Body text"/}LAURENS _ A 19-year-old Oneonta man was arrested Saturday for allegedly slashing a woman with a kitchen knife at a home in the town of Laurens, according to state police.
Conner Kilmer, 19, was charged with second-degree assault, second-degree menacing and fourth-degree criminal possession of a weapon, troopers said.
The woman, who suffered several cuts to her hands, was treated at the scene and declined to be taken to the hospital, troopers said.
Kilmer was arraigned in Laurens Town Court and sent to Otsego County jail on $5,000 bail pending further court action.
Deadline nearing for tax-relief applications
ONEONTA _ Applications for property tax exemptions are due March 1, Oneonta City Assessor Mario R. Arevalo announced recently.
All real property tax exemption applications, including the Enhanced School Tax Relief renewals, are due to the assessor's office by March 1.
To be eligible for Enhanced STAR, area residents must be at least 65 in 2010, must own and live in the property and have an adjusted gross income of $74,700 or less.
First-time applicants must submit photocopies of their birth certificate, property deed and 2008 income tax returns or statements. This exemption must be renewed every year.
Applicants younger than 65 may apply for the Basic STAR exemption. No annual renewal is required for Basic STAR.
