Business Beat: Woman opens studio for yoga in Guilford

A local woman has opened a studio in Guilford to teach yoga.

Suzette Hayes has completed a 200-hour course at the Kripalu Yoga and Health Center in Stockbridge, Mass., a media release said.

Hayes said she graduated and was certified Feb. 5. Her classes include gentle yoga, yoga with dance moves and other sessions for children and adults, the release said, and her Gospel Hill Road studio offers a ``rural, peaceful and scenic'' setting.

"Yoga is a physical technique which helps to tone the body and calm the mind, allowing one to deal with the pressures of our world,'' she said in a prepared statement. ``As we become calmer, healthier and more peaceful, we are able to be more creative, productive and happier."

For more information, call Hayes at 895-6321 or send e-mail to suzette.hayes@yahoo.com.

Schoharie County receives funds to help company

Schoharie County will receive $255,000 to help pharmaceutical packaging company Trinity Packaging Group expand, according to a media release from the state Division of Housing and Community Renewal.

Funding will allow the company in North Blenheim to invest in new machinery and equipment, said the release issued earlier this month, and create 17 jobs within two years, 16 of which will be available to low- and moderate-income families. The state Community Development Block Grant Economic program funding will leverage more than $507,500 in private and public financing, the release said.

The DHCR announcement said $1.6 million in funding would help businesses across the state grow and create 372 jobs.
