Video on natural gas drilling to be presented

COPES CORNERS _ The Concerned Citizens of the Butternut Valley will sponsor a video presentation about natural gas drilling at 7 p.m. today at Gilbertsville-Mount Upton Central School at 693 State Highway 51.

The video, titled "Gas Drilling: What You Can Do About It," shows a talk given earlier this year by Calvin Tillman, mayor of DISH, Texas. Tillman visited the region in February to speak in opposition to natural gas drilling.

The showing is free and open to the public.

Town Hall to close in honor of Hurtubise

WEST ONEONTA _ Oneonta Town Hall will close at noon today because of the death of the former highway superintendent.

James Hurtubise, 72, died Friday night. A memorial Mass will be at St. Mary's Catholic Church in Oneonta at 1 p.m. today.

Hurtubise, who had a construction business for many years, was elected Oneonta town highway superintendent and served from 1996 until his retirement in April.
