2. Express opinions and contrarian views.

'Redskins' out

Cooperstown Central School will soon no longer be nicknamed the 'Redskins.'

Students on Monday voted for their choice to replace the nickname many find offensive to Native Americans.

The top vote-getters — Coyotes, Deerslayers, Hawkeyes, Pathfinders and Wolves — were revealed at a Wednesday night school board meeting. There were a number of write-in votes to keep the nickname that goes back to the 1920s.

The school board will vote at a future date on the new name.
