Area News Roundup: Man charged with larceny

AFTON _ A Sanford man was arrested June 15 for allegedly taking a firearm from his father's Afton village residence, Afton police said.

Eric Nelson, 23, was charged with fourth-degree grand larceny, police said. He was being held in Chenango County jail to return to Afton Village Court at a later date, police said.

Police find mountain bike

LAURENS _ The Otsego County Sheriff's Office has recovered a 26-inch girl's mountain bike from the village of Laurens, according to a media release received Thursday.

The owner may call deputies at 547-6434 to recover the property.

Two arrested for selling alcohol illegally in area

State police made two area arrests Friday for alleged illegal alcohol sales to minors at convenience stores, according to a media release.

At the Valero, 676 W. Main St., Hancock, troopers arrested clerk Glenna L. Jennings, 39, of Hancock. Jennings is scheduled to appear in village of Hancock court on Wednesday.

At the Quickway, 360 State Route 10, Deposit, troopers arrested Amber R. Hendrickson, 19, of Deposit. Hendrickson is scheduled to appear in town of Deposit court on July 14.

They were each charged with prohibited sale of alcohol to a minor.

    The arrest of a major drug kingpin in Otsego County was announced today by Sheriff Richard J. Devlin Jr. and District Attorney John M. Muehl. Following a year-long investigation by a number of law enforcement agencies, Dante Darren Major, 35, of Hobart, was arrested for a number of drug felonies, Otsego deputies said.
