BAINBRIDGE _ Andy Triebold and Steve Lajoie didn't leave much room for suspense at the General Clinton Canoe Regatta Monday.
Triebold, of Spring Arbor, Mich., and Lajoie, of Mirabel, Quebec, won their second straight C-2 Pro title, in the 47th annual 70-mile race on the Susquehanna River from Cooperstown to Bainbridge in 7 hours, 22 minutes, 16 seconds.
It's Triebold's fourth-straight championship and second consecutive one with Lajoie.
Triebold won his first two championships with Matt Rimer, who didn't compete this year.
Triebold and Lajoie broke away from the pack early and opened a sizeable lead by the time they reached Otego.
Gilbertsville resident Matt Rudnitsky and Rochester resident Kyle Kiser placed second in 7:33:14, edging Matt Strieb and Steve Rankinen by one second in a final sprint.
"I'm happy," Rudnitsky said of his finish. "Second place is awesome."
John Kazimierczyk, of Richmond, N.H., won his second straight and third overall C-1 Pro title and was the first overall finisher for the race, crossing in 7:58:42.
Meridale resident Al Shaver Jr., competing in his 21st Clinton but first in the C-1 Pro, placed second in 7:59:37. Five-time champion Terry Kent finished third in 8:08:00.
