Gregory Sanik, the former Stamford school superintendent who was reappointed temporarily as the district searched for another chief, resigned unexpectedly Thursday, school board President Shirley Popp said.
Sanik cited personal reasons and health concerns and left at the end of business Thursday, she said Sunday.
The superintendent's office at Stamford Central School has had a revolving door this year, but the school board president said the district is in good order.
Ruth Ehrets, elementary school principal at Stamford, has been appointed temporarily as interim superintendent, Popp said, and another interim superintendent will be appointed soon, probably by the end of this week.
The school district's public hearing on the proposed budget will be held as planned at the school at 7 p.m. Tuesday, Popp said. The school has a business administrator who can present materials, she said.
``We are very confident that everything is in place,'' Popp said.
The district's search for another superintendent continues with the help of Alan Pole, former DCMO BOCES district superintendent, an associate with the educational consulting firm of Castallo & Silky, Popp said. Plans are to name another superintendent by July 1, with a starting date of Aug. 10, she said.
A message left at a home telephone number Sunday afternoon for Sanik wasn't immediately returned.
Sanik was serving as interim superintendent after Scott Hartman resigned in March.
Hartman, who was in his first year as superintendent, resigned March 12 after having been placed on paid leave, the school said previously. He was arrested Feb. 19 by Cobleskill police for driving while intoxicated and felony aggravated unlicensed operation, among other charges.
Pole previously said the salary range for the next superintendent would be $105,000 to $120,000, and the deadline for applications was Friday.
