Forensics expert to speak today
ONEONTA _ SUNY Oneonta will present Student Research Day
from 1 to 5 p.m. today in the ballroom of the Hunt College Union on
campus.
Eighty projects involving about 150 students and 60 faculty sponsors
from 25 different departments will be presented. Admission is free, and
the public is invited.
Dr. Michael Sikirica will speak on “Forensics: An Entity at the Triple
Point” at 1 p.m., when he will discuss forensics in relation to science,
medicine and law. Sikirica, a 1983 SUNY Oneonta graduate, has been the
medical examiner for Rensselaer County since 2001, operates Forensic
Medical Services, and is the founder of the independent DNA Forensic
Identification & Profiling Laboratory. He received his bachelor’s degree
in biology with a minor in anthropology from SUNY Oneonta and went on
to the SUNY School of Medicine at Buffalo.
From 2 p.m. to 5 p.m., students will present their projects through
poster sessions, computer displays and discussions. For more information,

Hussein trial attorney to be at ’Wick
ONEONTA _ An assistant U.S. attorney who had a role in the Iraq
trial of Saddam Hussein will speak at Hartwick College today.
Assistant U.S. Attorney Kevin Dooley will lecture at 7 p.m. in the
Room 202 of Johnstone Science Center on campus.
Dooley, based in Albany for the Northern District of New York, will
speak about his experience in Iraq, his role in the trial of Saddam Hussein
and the challenges of setting up a system of criminal justice in that
country.
While in Iraq, Dooley was the head of the U.S. Regime Crimes Liaison
Office and oversaw a team of American lawyers and investigators
that provided support and advice to the Iraqi tribunal dealing with the
charges against Hussein and others.
During his time in Iraq, Dooley lived in the “green zone” and worked
with Iraqis in investigations of the crimes of the Hussein government.
He is a graduate of Albany Law School and also has served in the
Albany County and Broome County District Attorney’s offices.

Celebration Creations Wedding & Event Planning, owned by Kerri
Insinga, is based in Sidney. The bridal boutique, at 38-40 Birdsall St. in

SUNY Oneonta to go green
ONEONTA _ The Red Dragon, mascot of the State
University College at Oneonta, will go green this week
during Green Dragon Week, a celebration of events related
to Earth Day and local environmental initiatives.
The college will offer a series of speakers, films and
exhibits designed to raise environmental awareness.
Members of the community are invited to participate.
Today, Terry Bliss, Otsego County planning director,
will present “Choose the Right Way to Throw
Away ... Recycling in Otsego County” at 7 p.m. in the
Red Dragon Theater of the Hunt College Union.
Earth Day will be celebrated from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m.
Wednesday on the main campus quad.
Displays and activities will include free ice cream
with local maple syrup topping, shopping tote giveaways,
an alternative energy display from CNR Solar,
the Bee Aware Club, a demonstration bee hive and
displays from Breezy Maple Farms and the Butternut
Valley Association.
In the event of inclement weather, the activities
will be moved to the Alumni Field House.
At 7 p.m. Wednesday, a free screening of the documentary
“King Corn” will be held in the Red Dragon
Theater.
Green Dragon Week will conclude with a free
screening of the movie “Wall E” at 7 p.m. Thursday in
the Red Dragon Theater.

Sorority to host musical event
ONEONTA _ The Sigma Sigma Sigma sorority at
the State University College at Oneonta will sponsor
“Rockin’ for Robbie,” a musical event to raise funds
for the Robbie Page Memorial, from 8:30 to 11 p.m.
Wednesday at the Waterfront of the Hunt College
Union.
Admission to the event will be $3, with all proceeds
going to the Robbie Page Memorial.
“Rockin’ for Robbie” will feature the bands Mike
Lovesick, Makeshift Parachute, Kakiat Park and Hal
Galardi.
The Robbie Page Memorial, which is Sigma Sigma
Sigma’s philanthropy, supports play-therapy programs
at two children’s hospitals. It is named in memory of
the son of a member of the sorority’s executive board,
who died of polio.
Cancer fundraiser on Wed.
ONEONTA _ SUNY Oneonta’s Rock to Cure Club
will host a Rave for Life Festival at 9 p.m. Wednesday
at the Black Oak Tavern, located at 14 Water St.
The free-admission event will feature a laser and
light show and music. Proceeds will benefit the Susan

Nonprofit will present forum
SIDNEY _ TCA Vision 21 Inc., a nonprofit community-
oriented organization, will host a tri-county
public resource forum from 6:30 to 8:30 p.m. Thursday
at the Sidney Memorial Public Library, located at 8
River St.
Many federal, state, county and local agencies will
be represented, and area residents are invited, officials
said.
Representatives committed are from the Bainbridge
Food Bank, Cornell Co-op Extension, Delaware
County Public Health, Catholic Charities of Delaware/
Otsego County, Delaware Opportunities, Angel Food
Ministries, Sidney PAL Center, Rural Health Network
of SCNY, Delaware County Department of Social Services
and Chenango Opportunities and Unadilla Food
Pantry.
Information from other agencies _ such as Delaware
County Office of the Aging, CDO Workforce,
Chenango County Public Health and Otsego County
Public Health _ will also be available to the public.
This forum is open to any resident living in Chenango,
Otsego or Delaware counties.
“There are many programs and services that are currently
available that people may qualify for and having
the actual agency representative there will help
inform the public about these services,” TCA Vision
21 President Dave Ramsey said in a news release.
This will be an “one-stop public resource” event,
he added.

Take Back the Night on Thurs.
ONEONTA _ The annual Take Back the Night
March will begin at 7 p.m. Thursday at SUNY Oneonta
and conclude with a program downtown at Muller Plaza.
The march, sponsored by the Violence Intervention
Program of Opportunities For Otsego, encourages
women and men to recognize and challenge different
types of violence in their own communities, including
rape, sexual violence and domestic violence.
The message of Take Back the Night, according to
a news release, is that all people have the right to be
free from violence, the right to be heard and the right
to reclaim those rights if they are violated.
The march begins at 7 p.m. Thursday in front of
the Milne Library on the SUNY Oneonta campus. The
march proceeds through the Hartwick College campus
before continuing to Main Street.
This event is held in collaboration with SUNY
Oneonta PAIRS, Hartwick College Sexual Assault
Awareness Committee and Planned Parenthood. It is
open to all members of the community.
