A woman found dazed and bloodied in a New Lisbon home Thursday suffered multiple dog bites and was hospitalized at Mary Imogene Bassett Hospital in Cooperstown, according to state police at Oneonta.
Debra Stonaker, 49, suffered puncture wounds to her neck, arms and upper torso and had a suspected broken wrist, troopers said.
Troopers responded to 367 Turnbull Road after a neighbor stopped by to check on Stonaker, who was believed to be watching the home for her relatives, troopers said Sunday night.
Three pit bulls belonging to the relatives and a yellow Labrador belonging to Stonaker were taken from the home and are under a 10-day rabies quarantine monitored by Shawn Patrick, New Lisbon's animal control officer.
The woman was intoxicated, confused and alone in the home and was not able to provide much information about when she was attacked or why, troopers said.
Patrick said the woman may have been injured and disoriented for up to a day or more.
The dogs, which were all licensed, did not appear to suffer any major injuries, Patrick said.
The incident remains under investigation for possible violations of agriculture and markets law _ the section of state law governing animal welfare and behavior _ and the case may be brought before a New Lisbon town justice, Patrick said.
Stonaker was listed in stable condition on Sunday night, according to a Bassett spokeswoman.
Patrick said it appears the woman was house sitting for other family members who live there. Those family members have been notified, he said.
