ONEONTA _ Elena's Sweet Indulgence and the West Kortright Centre will be recognized tonight by the Executive Service Corps for their work in the community.

ESC is hosting its 2008 Celebration of Service Reception and Award Ceremony between 5:30 and 7:30 p.m. at the National Soccer Hall of Fame. The Festival of Trees at the Hall will provide the backdrop for the event.

ESC founders Joann Rasmussen and Erna Morgan-McReynolds will be presenting their namesake awards to the winners during the ceremony, which includes hors d'oeuvres, beverages and chamber music.

State Sen. James L. Seward, R-Milford, will be assisting the presentations, according to a media release from ESC.

There will be a silent auction held to benefit the outreach efforts of ESC, and attendees are requested to bring a can of food to donate.

The Rasmussen Award for a not-for-profit organization will be given to the West Kortright Centre in East Meredith.

The center was assisted by ESC, including volunteer Charles Weber, and with funding through the O'Connor

Foundation to redesign a database for their patrons. The center hosts music, theater and arts and culture workshops.

The Morgan-McReynolds Award for small business will be given to Elena's Sweet Indulgence, a bakery and cafe in downtown Oneonta.

Elena Doyle began her business in her home nearly 20 years ago and has been working with ESC for about 10 years.

With the assistance of volunteers Ted Wilklow, Ivan Goryi and Forest Vachner, Doyle was helped through some difficult years and has made a recent transition to a new and larger space at The Clinton Plaza, according to the release.

There is no cost to attend the ESC ceremony, but it is requested that reservations be made by calling 433-1700.

ESC is a not-for-profit group of local executives, business owners, educators and other professionals who volunteer by consulting and training small businesses and organizations.

The group helps launch businesses, and also assists existing businesses and not-for-profit organizations.

Following a year-long investigation by a number of law enforcement agencies, Dante Darren Major, 35, of Hobart, was arrested for a number of drug felonies, Otsego deputies said.
