Area News Roundup: STOP NYRI to have meeting tonight

SHERBURNE _ STOP NYRI will have its next public informational meeting at 7 p.m. tonight at the Sherburne United Church of Christ on the corner of Main and East State streets.

At the meeting, there will be discussion of the next steps in the PSC process and how to continue active opposition to the NYRI power-line project.

Preparedness fair set for Bassett Friday

COOPERSTOWN _ Bassett Healthcare's Department of Emergency Preparedness will sponsor a fair focusing on personal preparedness from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. Friday.

The event will be in the hospital's Fieldstone building lobby on Atwell Road in Cooperstown.

Families will learn about the proper use of smoke and carbon monoxide detectors, how to use a fire extinguisher and how to make a family and individual preparedness kit, among other topics, and will be able to sign up for NY ALERT, according to a Bassett news release.

The following organizations and businesses will provide information and answer questions: American Red Cross, Bruce Hall Corp., Cooperstown Police Department, Haggerty Ace Hardware, Leatherstocking Region Federal Credit Union, state Department of Health, county Department of Health, county Office of Emergency Services and county Public Health.
