A Butternuts couple found dead in their home Sunday were killed during a double suicide, according to Otsego County coroner James Magee.
Dr. James Terzian, a forensic pathologist at Lourdes Hospital in Binghamton, performed autopsies on Robert F. and Charlene A. Weaver of 513 Oregon Road on Monday, Magee said.
Terzian determined that Robert Weaver, 62, shot himself with a 9mm handgun, and then Charlene Weaver, 54, shot herself with the same gun, Magee said.
"He concluded that they both were suicide victims," Magee said.
No suicide note was left, he said.
State police at Sidney indicated earlier that they were investigating a murder-suicide.
Based on the condition of the bodies, the time of death was Saturday afternoon or night, Magee said.
Donna Higgie of Oregon Road said she was alerted Sunday afternoon by someone pounding on her door, two houses down from the Weaver residence.
At the door were the couple's adult daughter and her cousin, Higgie said.
"They said, Call 911, call 911,'" Higgie said.
The distraught women were at Higgie's home for about 20 minutes until troopers arrived at the Weaver home, Higgie said.
She said the daughter was not from the area and was visiting her parents.
"She said she was helping them get caught up on their bills," Higgie said.
The couple were quiet and did not socialize much in the neighborhood, neighbors said Monday.
"They just moved in a couple of years ago," Higgie said. "They didn't work."
Higgie said it seemed the couple were retired.
