ONEONTA _ Oneonta city schools will be ready to open on time, said Superintendent Michael Shea at Wednesday's regular board of education meeting. The session was held in the middle school library.
The roofing project at Riverside and Greater Plains elementary schools are nearing completion, and road work at the middle school is almost done, he said. None of this will interfere with the first day of class for students, which is scheduled for Wednesday, he said.
In other business, Shea said he did not know what to expect from a study under way about the future of the Otsego-Northern Catskills Board of Cooperative Educational Services.
When District Superintendent Marie Wiles left the post in July to take a position in a school district outside the area, state Commissioner of Education Richard Mills was required to undertake a survey inquiring about the future of the 19-member district, Shea said.
Milles is scheduled to report on the findings of a subsequent study in November, Shea said, and there will be positives and negatives with any decision.
