DELHI _ A Mount Vernon man pleaded innocent to charges that he allegedly broke a fellow inmate's leg at the Delaware County jail.
Kamar L. Harrison, no age available, is one of two federal inmates at the Delaware County jail who were arrested after an assault Feb. 18.
Harrison was arraigned on charges of first-degree assault and first-degree intimidating a witness.
Delaware County District Attorney Richard Northrup said Harrison and Taron O. Robinson allegedly broke Yushaa Abdul Abdas-Salam's leg in retribution after Abdas-Salam told a correction officer that one of the two men had punched another inmate. The incident occurred in February.
"They broke (Abdas-Salam's) leg and injured him badly," Northrup said.
Harrison is a convicted federal inmate who has not yet been sentenced on federal charges that involve gang activity, Northrup said.
Robinson has not been arraigned because he was sentenced on his federal charges and is not serving a sentence in a federal prison. Northrup said they are waiting for Robinson to be returned to face the state charges.
Delaware County Judge Carl Becker remanded Harrison to jail without bail and scheduled his trial for the January trial term.

In other court business, one of six Walton residents arraigned in Delaware County Court on March 17 for selling prescription drugs pleaded guilty to a reduced charge.
Shaun L. Provost, 30, pleaded guilty to fifth-degree criminal sale of a controlled substance in a plea agreement in which there was no sentence promise.
Provost had originally faced one count of third-degree criminal sale of a controlled substance for allegedly selling oxycodone Dec. 23 and two counts of fourth-degree criminal sale of a controlled substance for allegedly selling dihydrocodeinone Oct. 28 and methadone Nov. 13.
Provost is scheduled to be sentenced Sept. 22. The maximum sentence he could receive is 21/2 years determinate and one year of post-release supervision.
