Sidney to host arts fest Saturday

A day of music and fun will be returning to downtown Sidney on Saturday.

The 8th annual Sidney Summer Arts and Music Festival will be held at several locations on and around Main Street, according to a media release.

The street in the downtown area will be closed to allow people of all ages to enjoy the entertainment, including more than 40 crafters and food vendors, as well as games and music, said one of the organizers, Sidney Chamber of Commerce member Kyle Westcott.

Greg Hitchcock is also an organizer of the event sponsored by the Chamber, Mirabito Fuel Group and Sidney United Way, Westcott said.

The day starts at 9 a.m., with crafters and food vendors, and the other activities start at 10 a.m. The stage will return at the corner of Main and Division streets for several of the musical performers. The Smart community room at the Sidney Memorial Public Library will be hosting several acts, including musicians and a magician.

Main Street, in front of Glad Tidings, will be the site of several dance performances. There will be a classic car cruise-in starting at 5 p.m. on Main Street with trophies to be awarded at 7 p.m.

"We shut the street down for a day" to encourage families to come out and enjoy themselves while visiting downtown merchants, Westcott said. "It brings the community together."

Sidney Mayor James Warren said that the day highlights what Sidney has to offer, and "It will benefit the entire community."
