Twin brothers die in crash
ROXBURY _ Twin 70-year-old brothers died late Thursday night after a one-car motor vehicle accident on state Route 23 in the town of Roxbury, about one mile east of Grand Gorge, state police at Sidney said.
Edward M. Lennon, of Harpersfield, was driving west Thursday when, according to a preliminary investigation, he traveled across the eastbound lane, driving off the roadway, striking a culvert and overturning, troopers said.
Both the driver and his brother, James H. Lennon, who lived at the same location, sustained severe head and chest trauma, troopers said.
Both were pronounced dead at the scene by Delaware County Medical Examiner Richard Ucci.
The cause of the accident continues to be investigated by the Troop C Collision Reconstruction Unit and Bureau of Criminal Investigation. Troopers were assisted at the scene by Roxbury Town Constable Steve Williamson and members of the Grand Gorge, Roxbury, Prattsville and Margaretville Fire Departments.
Rape arrest made
A 23-year-old Oneonta man was arrested and charged in the Friday morning rape of a 23-year-old college student, Oneonta police said.
Justin J. Gillingham was charged with first-degree rape, a class B felony, punishable by up to 25 years in prison, police said.
The incident allegedly occurred at about 2:30 a.m., when the victim was talking to a man she met earlier in the evening and started to walk away, police said.
She alleged Gillingham grabbed her and dragged her into a wooded area in the city, where he raped her, police said. Lt. Dennis Nayor said he could not disclose where the incident took place because forensic evidence needed for the case could be compromised.
The victim was able to flee her assailant and contact police, police said.
She was transported by the Oneonta Fire Department to A.O. Fox Memorial Hospital, where she was treated for injuries and released, police said.
Gillingham was being held in the Oneonta police jail Friday night pending arraignment in Oneonta City Court.
