Seward's Otsego funding

Sen. James Seward allocated member-item funding in Otsego County as follows:

Cooperstown, The Brookwood School, $30,000 to subsidize childcare costs for families who need financial assistance and to cover operating expenses for our kitchen and school meal program.

Oneonta, Catskill Symphony Orchestra, $30,000 to meet operating expenses for the 2008-09 season.

Cherry Valley, Cherry Valley Community Facilities Corporation, $10,000 toward the operating expenses not covered by student tuition.

Cherry Valley, Cherry Valley Rebekah Lodge #546, $10,000 for repairs to the back of the lodge.

Cherry Valley, village of Cherry Valley, $10,000 to repair/replace sections of village sidewalk to increase safety, tourism and commerce as well as beautification.

Civil Air Patrol, New York Wing, $20,000 to offset the costs of maintaining the NYWING Civil Air Patrol fleet of ground vehicles used for emergency services and disaster relief.

Cobleskill, Community Maternity Services, $3,000 to teach a six-hour parent education class to individuals involved in custody matters and also a new laptop and software for both the Schoharie and Otsego county offices.

Cooperstown, Cooperstown Concert Series, $10,000 for artist fees.

Cooperstown, Cooperstown Veterans Post, $10,000 for concrete gutter replacement and external wall replacement.

Edmeston, town of Edmeston, $10,000 for the purchase of historical markers, avenue banners, production of guided tours and the printing of a bicentennial book.

Fly Creek, Fly Creek Volunteer Fire Company, $15,000 to blacktop the area around the fire hall, and also purchase equipment.

Oneonta, Foothills Performing Arts Center, $75,000 to supplement operation expenses.

Oneonta, Friends of Recovery of Delaware & Otsego Counties, $10,000 for sustaining peer-based addiction recovery support services.

Girl Scouts-Indian Hills Council, $5,000 for Thirteenth Moon early-intervention program for girls ages 7-14.

Cooperstown, Glimmerglass Opera, $100,000 for general operating aid.

Oneonta, Greater Oneonta Historical Society, $10,000 to continued restoration and adaptive reuse of 183 Main St.

West Winfield, Henry Hiteman Engine & Hose Company, $15,000 for an addition for storage, showers and fitness room.

Laurens, Laurens Volunteer Emergency Squad, $10,000 for a new ambulance.

Cooperstown, Mary Imogene Bassett Hospital, $25,000 for school-based health centers.

Cooperstown, Mary Imogene Bassett Hospital, $5,000 for summer youth employment in the Science Research Training Program of the Bassett Research Institute.

Milford, Milford Fire Department Emergency Squad, $12,000 to purchase turn-out gear for EMS personnel for protection against biohazards, blood borne pathogens, glass, fire, etc.

Milford, Milford Historical Society, $5,000 to set up an exhibit to include the lives of the 38 Milford residents who served serving in the Civil War.

Oneonta, National Soccer Hall of Fame, $75,000 to continue the process of revitalizing the museum to boost attendance.

Oneonta, Oneonta Concert Association, $10,000 to host The Song and Dance Ensemble of West Africa.

Oneonta, Oneonta Family YMCA, $10,000 to pay for interactive and other fitness equipment to be used with children and youth in addressing issues of obesity and establishing a healthy lifestyle.

Oneonta, Oneonta Fire Department, $15,000 for a 2008 Yamaha 700 Rhino Silver Edition, a utility trailer to transport the ATV and rescue equipment trailer.

Cooperstown, Otsego County Soil and Water Conservation District. $7,000 for Canadarago Lake Hydrological Study.

Oneonta, Planned Parenthood of South Central New York, $25,000 to provide updates to the Oneonta clinic and administrative offices.

Richfield Springs, Richfield Veterans Club, $10,000 for materials for a veterans memorial.

Roseboom, town of Roseboom, $25,000 for the building of town offices.

Springfield, Springfield Fire District, $15,000 for a new furnace and roof repairs at the East Springfield Company

facility as well as a new furnace at the Springfield Center facility.

Springfield, town of Springfield, $10,000 to install thermopane windows in the community center.

Oneonta, Upper Catskill Community Council of the Arts, $10,000 for ArtQuest, to commission and install 12 unique stand alone art pieces at tourism sites in the region.

Exeter, West Exeter Cemetery Association, $5,000 for a new fence for cemetery.

West Laurens, West Laurens Fire Department, $14,000 to purchase a set of hydraulic spreading and cutting tool.

Worcester, Worcester Historical Society, $25,000 for Heritage Park to purchase a bandstand, lights, fencing and security monitors.

  • Drug "kingpin" arrested in Otsego County

    The arrest of a major drug kingpin in Otsego County was announced today by Sheriff Richard J. Devlin Jr. and District Attorney John M. Muehl. Following a year-long investigation by a number of law enforcement agencies, Dante Darren Major, 35, of Hobart, was arrested for a number of drug felonies, Otsego deputies said.
