NORWICH _ A city of Norwich couple is safe after a fire Wednesday damaged their home at 55 Sheldon St.
Homeowner Paul Laughlin and his wife were alerted by a smoke detector as they slept and were able to escape the home safely, fire officials said.
Firefighters were able to rescue the couple's dog and two cats and bring the fire under control in about 15 minutes.
The cause of the blaze that broke out in the rear of the home is believed to be electrical in nature, fire officials said.
No injuries were reported.
