On The Bright Side: Tech business honored

ONEONTA _ A growing Oneonta technology business with a dedication to customers and community has been named Otsego County Chamber/Keybank NA 8th Annual Small Business of the Year.

Information Systems Division Inc. will receive the award Oct. 11 at the Otesaga Resort Hotel in Cooperstown.

"I am honored and humbled that Information Systems Division, Inc. has been chosen for this prestigious award," said President Ron Ranc. "I continue to be awed by the enormous contribution that small business makes to our community and I am proud that ISD is part of that effort."

The company was chosen during a selection process that started in July, said Chamber President and CEO Rob Robinson. There were 20 chamber members nominated by their peers.

"ISD is recognized as a company that provides high-quality technology support and equipment throughout central New York," said Jim Empie, Key Bank vice president. "In addition, ISD has stepped up to actively support the many solid organizations in our community."

Additional criteria include customer satisfaction, potential for growth, and contribution and involvement in the chamber itself, Robinson said.

The company was started by Ranc in 1988 as a part-time business serving the needs of computer users as Ranc Consulting Services. In 1997, the company opened up a full-time office in Oneonta and changed to its present name.

Two years later, it moved to its current location, where its eight employees handle computer system design, hardware repair, training and retail sales.

Ranc credits the company's high level of customer service, allowing the company to provide continued support of products and services.

The award is a recognition that "we are doing the right thing," he said.

Reservations are required to attend the award dinner. The cost is $50 per person with a cash bar reception at 6 p.m. and dinner starting at 7 p.m.

For more information, call Shelly Giangrant at the chamber office at 432-4500, ext. 207.
