Polar Bear ice cream is still in Otego
The Daily Star article of Feb. 5 was misleading and confusing. A “new breed of Polar Bear” ice cream seemed to imply that this project is a resurrection of the original Polar Bear, an area institution since the 1940s.
The original Polar Bear is alive and well and has been residing in Otego since 1998 at the Pie in the Sky country store. This was first reported in The Daily Star on April 27, 1998.
Area residents have been enjoying the delicious products there, all the old favorites and many new creations, for more than a decade.
That another business is going to use the Polar Bear name does not make it the original Polar Bear ice cream. To imply otherwise is untrue and misleading.

County mustn’t change veterans’ van
To my fellow veterans in Otsego County, we need to let our political representatives know how we feel about the Otsego County VA van. Call or write to U.S. Rep. Scott Murphy, Sen. Kirsten Gillibrand and state Sen. Jim Seward. And write to the Otsego County Board of Representatives, too.
We do not need a private bus company. Leave the VA van the way it is. Let the veterans be heard.
I hope to hear the views of veterans on this subject.
