Planned Parenthood doesn't show respect

I am writing in response to a letter in The Daily Star on Nov. 6.

If yearly check-ups, screenings, etc., were the only thing going on inside Planned Parenthood facilities, there would have been no groups of people outside standing and praying at 212 locations through the United States during the last 40 Days for Life campaign. The organization would be applauded if that was its only agenda.

You tell us to have some respect! It is exactly the idea of respect that we are conveying _ respect for human life. If a woman is embarrassed or uncomfortable for a few minutes by their presence _ it doesn't measure to the lifetime of physical and emotional damage done when a woman choose abortion.

Planned Parenthood continues to be largest provider of abortions and abortion referrals in our nation. Millions of lives have been taken since the infamous decision in 1973.

Star wrong to show such a waste of food

I am one of the proud advisers for the Cooperstown Leo (young Lions) Club, and our many service projects include several food drives to help stock the shelves of the Cooperstown and Hartwick food banks. We are all aware of the terrible hunger and poverty here in the United States and around the globe. That is why I was disappointed in the photo on Page 2 of the Nov. 5 paper showing a young man sliding in a mixture of pudding, ice cream and noodles.

I have always applauded The Daily Star's social conscience, and that is why I was surprised at this picture. We are a wealthy and abundant nation, but are we so callous that despite the ubiquitous coverage of the work by so many celebrities to help eradicate world hunger, we insist on wasting food in this most public way? When I was little, my parents always told me, "Don't play with your food." We should all have listened to our parents.

Results show support for clerk

It was clear from the election results that our town enthusiastically supports our current town clerk ... and my sincere congratulations go out to Connie Young. This has been an amazing experience, and I am deeply appreciative of the people who encouraged and supported me.

I love the town of Franklin and look forward to contributing in whatever way is needed.

Betsy Babcock

Babcock ran as a write-in candidate for Franklin town clerk.
