Senior meal site closings unfair

On Nov. 4, the Otsego County Board of Representative was presented Resolution 245. This resolution was for a contract with Prestige Services Inc. to operate Otsego County's Nutrition Program for the Elderly. The board wants to cut costs and this program was reduced by $34,800 for 2010. Three meal sites were chosen to be removed _ Unadilla, Cooperstown and Worcester. Who voted these sites out? James Powers, Stephen Fournier, Richard Murphy, Martha Stayton, Catherine Rothenberger and Katherine Stuligross. Five of the representatives have Oneonta phone numbers, but did Oneonta get the ax? No sir, it did not.

The one main concern of mine is, why these sites? I cannot understand why these people would take away from our seniors, who look forward every day to getting together with their friends and neighbors for some social time and much needed nutrition. Why not take some of Oneonta's sites?

Maybe the time has come for not so many to be on the board from that area, if they cannot represent the county people as a whole.

And to add to that, ask them how much they paid to get a computer program, which isn't in use and may be never in use, for the tax collectors. Was that really needed?

Residents of Otsego County, it's time to stand up and just see what our representatives are doing at these meetings. Do they really do the job? How do we know? The above decision is not one that is favorable in my book.

Wonderful experience in mayoral campaign

I begin by thanking everyone who supported me in this campaign. The last seven months have been the best experience of my life, as I have had the honor of meeting so many of our city's residents. I am proud to be the first student to have established such a role in the community, and I look forward to continuing my community service efforts, while promoting additional programs that will still bring a few of my ideas to fruition.

I congratulate Dick Miller in his victory and hope that he will be involved with the community and work with its members.

As for Erik, he is an excellent person whom I have had the joy of getting to know on a more familiar basis.

As for Oneonta, this has become my first home away from the place I grew up and I plan on investing even more into this great community. I am proud to have stood up for so many great people, and I hope to work with all of you in the years to come.
