Phoenix Mills who both thought the SPCA thrift shop should continue to sell used books.
Books are a great way to attract customers.
But until it changes its
decision, I’d like to tell people where they can stock up on inexpensive books for their winter reading.
In Oneonta: the Hospice store on Main Street has a small selection.
The Salvation Army has a larger selection, but more expensive.
In Davenport, the thrift shop across from Charlotte Valley School has a large variety of books priced at
10 cents each, except for cookbooks and craft
books, which are 25 cents each.
As a volunteer there, I enjoy finding books for people who give me authors or titles they are looking for.
We have mysteries, large print, children’s books, and many more.
The hours are 9 a.m. to noon on Thursdays and Saturdays.
Stamford has a well-organized selection of books
in Core Values, and while
in town, stop by the library up the street to see its
paperback exchange in the lobby.
The small town of Jefferson has some books at the thrift shop across from the school, which is open Thursday nights and Saturdays.
Roxbury Library has many books in its thrift shop.
You can find the hours on its website.
There are several shelves of books at the thrift shop on West Main Street in Cobleskill, which is open Thursday-Saturday.
To the west, Norwich has a paperback exchange store run by the Historical Museum, and the Sidney thrift store on Main Street has a good assortment of inexpensive books.
These are just some of my favorite places to find books at great prices.
