Economic ladder
cut off at bottom
I find it extremely curious, and unfortunate, that those among us who are on the lower rungs of the economic ladder – compared to whatever now is considered “well off” _ know so very little about the stock market. People with a lot of money seem to know a lot more about it. Why is that, I wonder? And does it matter?
It’s true that, statistically, almost everyone on the economic ladder lost money last year. The whole ladder dropped by not just a few rungs (or, depending on your point of view, was cut off at the bottom).
But, not everyone lost the opportunity to make money. Only those at the bottom of the ladder lost that. People who earned money the old-fashioned way (the real old-fashioned way) by creating a useful product or providing a useful service lost their jobs en mass, if not also their homes.
Meanwhile, the fat cats, many of the same ones who contributed most to the present crisis with their dubious paper products, are first in line for bailouts and first to make money again _ in the stock market.
The economic ladder is not being rebuilt from the bottom rungs up, folks. It is being trickled down to, again, from the top. It’s the stock market, stupid!
Here is some free advice from a nobody, to anyone who will listen. Open an online stock trading account, do some research and due diligence, pick a good stock, find some money, and invest it with a continuing 10 percent trailing stop order to minimize a possible loss. Leave it until it sells, and never do it again … because now is your best shot.
If you don’t know what I’m talking about … maybe you can find out.

Arcuri ignoring most of constituents
I tried posting a comment to Tom Grace’s Jan. 16 article about U.S. Rep. Michael Arcuri’s “get-together’ in Cooperstown. For some reason, no comments that were submitted appeared.
I am taking this opportunity to respond.
The second to last paragraph says, “Another speaker said fracking fluids have never contaminated water wells.” That speaker was my husband.

embedded.
Mr. Arcuri kept everyone waiting, gave a canned speech of less than five minutes length, and appeared flustered by questions. The questions clearly veered from what he had been briefed on.
His disregard for the position of a majority of his constituents, along with his pandering to the well-heeled crowd and his decision to ignore the full ramifications of what he is doing make me very sorry to have voted for him.
