Gas drilling would be devastating to area
In answer to Mr. Bianchetto’s letter on July 1. I have friends who recently visited this area from Pennsylvania.
They have a much different opinion on natural gas drilling.
One friend told me don’t ever get involved with it because it ruins wells and destroys the value of the land.
She told me the drilling has been disastrous in many Pennsylvania counties.
Wake up, people, and read the writing on the wall. One simple safety mistake could blow a hole in your area big enough to bury a whole village in.
Do you really trust these people with our lives? Look at the mess in the Gulf Coast. Accidents do happen _ maybe in your backyard. Think about it. Say no.

Try to help town, don’t just criticize
In answer to Susan Sklenarik:
The STOP-DWI director is on the county payroll. She used county funds to buy a $20,700 car for the village of Sidney. STOP-DWI has nothing to do with the enforcement of laws. Our laws are based on the “presumption of innocence.” DWI enforcement assumes the presumption of guilt. Many law-abiding citizens are forced through a demeaning process on imagined violations. Our fiscally irresponsible state government is “encouraging” law enforcement to prioritize “crimes” that bring in the most fine money. The state-imposed $85 surcharge on everything going through local courts is stealing. All of this is in violation of everyone’s rights.
The quarterly financial report was filed long ago. It was filed late because we were not aware that it was required. Most towns don’t owe it and the only reason that we do is because of the huge debt that we inherited from previous administrations.
Speaking of reports not filed. The state requires all candidates and committees to file a report if they spent more than $1,000. The town of Sidney Democratic Committee and the Democratic candidate for supervisor spent more than $1,000 on radio ads alone last year; no report was filed. They also took money from the Eleanor Roosevelt Legacy Committee (similar to ACORN), a group from downstate that tampers with upstate local elections. Local Republican candidates, including me, personally paid all of their own expenses.
The Campground at East Sidney Lake is on target to be in the black this year after losing over $22,000 last year. The Tri-Town Hospital is expanding services and cooperating with us to ease the financial burden to the town.
Instead of coming to town board meetings to nitpick, why don’t you try to do something beneficial for your community?
