Don't tow cars
Let's ban going to Denny's. How can Denny's prove they lose so much business on one day to have vehicles towed during the relay races? I think you would like to have people come in to buy coffee.

Downey should show more respect
This is in reply to Dick Downey's letter of June 7 in The Daily Star. I am getting fed up with Mr. Downey's rather insulting comments, such as characterizing those of us who sincerely oppose horizontal hydrofracking for gas in Otsego County _ and throughout New York state _ as "Wizards of Scare."
If he has bothered to read some of the scientific literature on the subject, there is legitimate concern about long-range aquifer pollution and hazards to human health from fracking, among other problems. Such sequellae could be years or decades down the road, well after the mess has ended from the "boom and bust" economy created by profit-driven gas companies, who will include many temporary workers from out of state.
Please, sir, have some respect for those who differ with your opinions.

Manor is an asset, not a liability
Rep. Lindberg is singing his old, tired song about getting rid of the Manor, again.
Frankly, it's getting worn out. The Manor is an excellent asset to the area, employing local people and is a model of what a nursing home should aspire to become.
This social model nursing home and superior rehab facility should never be considered for privatization. If you ask locals, they will tell you what a wonderful experience they had there, or that their family members, who have been cared for, experienced. They consider it their home, and are taken care of in a way most family members only wish they could do themselves.
As the Otsego County population ages, this isn't something to be downsized or handed off to be shortchanged, but expanded! I'd like to ask Rep. Lindberg, who will take care of you if you have a stroke, and can't feed yourself? As you age and can't remember your name or where the bathroom is, who will take care of you?
Think about it. The best care is found here. It's one of the things our county does well.
Maybe what we need to do is elect officials who have the wisdom to realize and support that.
